How Can you support Broughshane Environment Wildfowl & Wildlife Trust and their Waterfowl Pond.

Broughshane Waterfowl Park holds a special place in our hearts and is cherished by our community and visitors alike. Many have enjoyed peaceful walks through the park, marveling at the diverse selection of birds and animals. However, maintaining the park comes with significant costs. Each year, Broughshane Environment Wildfowl and Wildlife Trust spends thousands of pounds on food, maintenance, and enclosure security.

Donations made at our park collection points or through street collections make a real difference. Now, you can also donate online via PayPal. Please give whatever you can; every contribution counts. Your support enables us to continue our vital work in preserving Broughshane Waterfowl Park as a safe haven for our birds and animals.

Mount Slemish & the Legend of Saint Patrick

The Village of Broughshane can be found at the bottom of Slemish Mountain, home to the patron saint of Ireland, St. Patrick. According to legend, following his capture and being brought to Ireland as a slave, Patrick as a young boy worked as a shepherd on Slemish Mountain.

Archaeology and History

There is evidence that The Braid Valley has been inhabited since the Neolithic period.

A megalithic portal tomb in the townland of Ticloy was constructed around 5000 years ago.   Neolithic stone axes and many flint tools and weapons have also been found in the Braid valley. The Braid Valley probably acted as a corridor, whereby early settlers made their way inland from the coast, were attracted by the good land and made the valley their home.
